The 42nd running of the Mid-Winter 10 Mile Classic had to be postponed to March this year due to fore-casted high tides, extreme wind, low temperatures, and potential flooding on the course. Despite being “Late-Winter” (and having calm and clear skies for race prep and clean-up), Mother Nature did bring in some wind and snow for the start of the race so that we could still live up to our name.
Alec Troxell of Portland, Maine led not 1, not 2, but 3 other runners under Judson Cake’s 2010 course record, demolishing it by over 2 minutes to win with a time of 48:42. Not only did we have 4 open runners below the record, but Dan Vassallo of Peabody, Massachussetts managed to set a new masters course record with his time of 52:10.
Karley Piers of Falmouth, Maine was the first woman to cross the line in 1 hour and 4 seconds. Saeger Fischer of Portsmouth, New Hampshire was the first masters runner in 66:20.
Our first Non-Binary runner this year was Chris Dunn of Eliot, Maine in 59:14. Our Clydesdale winners this year were Tyler McLaughlin (57:36) and Chris Nichols (69:29), and our Filly winners were Jamyn Dawes (78:12) and Erica Swenson (94:12).
A total of 6 teams were able to field a full team of 5 runners that included at least 2 men and 2 women this year, with Valor Track Club running to a handy win with a combined time of 4:32:19; over 25 minutes ahead of their closest competitor!
